John J. Pietrofesa, Ed.D., LP

Dr. Pietrofesa is the past recipient of the Terry Hood Lifetime Achievement Award.
 
Dr. Pietrofesa has written 13 books and over 120 professional articles and is a Professor and coordinator of Counselor Education at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan.  He has previously worked for the National Football League as part of their Player Assistance Program and in that capacity worked with the Detroit Lions for over ten years.
 
Dr Pietrofesa participates in most major insurance provider networks.

 

Dr. John Pietrofesa is a State Board Licensed Psychologist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. He is a Certified Sports Psychologist, a Certified Forensic Therapist, and a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. His outpatient clinical practice of over thirty years includes individual psychotherapy and marital and family counseling with adults, adolescents, and children.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Dennis J. Jacobs is a State Board Licensed Psychologist and Marriage Counselor. He has a Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Michigan with specializaiton in emotional development and interpersonal relationships. Dr.Jacobs' clinical practice includes children, adolescents, and adults in areas of marriage and family, relationship and divorce counseling, grief/loss, abandonment problems and

personal life management issues.  Dr. Jacobs has over 20 years of experience as a consultant to local school districts working with children, adolescents, and parents in the following areas: Child/Adolescent Psychological Assessment, Behavior/Learning Problems, Attention Deficit Disorder Assessment, and Parent Guidance/Child Management. 

 

The Cognitive/Behavioral and Insight Approach is utilized in the treatment of Depression, Anxiety/Panic Disorders, and Anger Management. 

 

Dr. Jacobs is an active member in the American Psychological and Michigan Psychological Associations and participates in many of the major insurance provider networks.

Helene Greenwald, Ph.D., LP

Dr. Helene Greenwald is a licensed psychologist.  She received her Ph.D. from Wayne State University. 

 

Dr. Greenwald specializes in working with children and families dealing with behavioral issues, learning problems, ADHD, and social difficulties.  She utilizes different approaches when working with children, but 

feels that parent involvement is an important element in treatment.  She administers psychological evaluations.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Stephen  B. Hillman is a graduate of Indiana University and has numerous national and international journal publications to his credit.  In addition, he is much sought after as a presenter to both local and national audiences. He is a State of Michigan Licensed Psychologist, and a Professor at Wayne State University

Pamela Van Kampen, Ph.D., LPC

Dr. Pamela Van Kampen is a Licensed Professional Counselor.  She is also a certified teacher with endorsements in speech and language therapy and school counseling. 

 

Dr. Van Kampen received her doctorate from Wayne State University.  She also holds a Masters degree in Education and a Masters degree in Audiology and Speech Science from Michigan State University.

Dr. Van Kampen has more than 30 years of experience working in public schools throughout the state of Michigan; she has worked as an elementary classroom teacher, a speech and language therapist, a special education classroom teacher, and as an elementary and middle school counselor.

Dr. Van Kampen is a part time faculty member at Wayne State University.  Her 

areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, school adjustment problems, 

divorce, substance abuse and behavior therapy.

Kim Williams, Ph.D., LLP

Dr. Kim Williams is a child, adolescent, and family therapist.  

 

She specializes in:

 

- Atttention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) testing

- Testing for learning disorders, dyslexia testing, and   school IEPs.

 

 

 

-Depression and anxiety counseling

-And a wide variety of behavioral difficulties, such as with oppositional defiant children. 

 

Dr. Williams is trained in a variety of theraputic techniques such as art and play therapy, sand therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR for trauma), cognitive-behavioral therapy, and Gestalt therapy.  

 

Dr. Williams is also an adjunct professor at Wayne State University, teaching courses in childhood disorders, mood disorders, and substance abuse problems.

Dr. Rachael Herkowitz is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist.  She received her Masters and Doctorate degrees from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL.  She works with children, adolescents, and adults dealing with a variety of issues including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, self-esteem and relationship difficulties, chronic pain and illness, weight management and stress management.

Dr. Pietrofesa received her doctorate from the University of Michigan; she worked as a high school counselor for 29 years and has been in clinical practice for over 30 years. She has also been an Adjunct Professor at Wayne State University.  She has previously worked for the National Football League as part of their Player Assistance Program and in that capacity worked with the Detroit Lions for over ten yers.  She currently has been appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court to the State of Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission. 

 

Dr. Pietrofesa works with adolescents and adults in the areas of anxiety and panic disorder, depression, substance abuse and addictions, behavior management, marital and family counseling, sexuality issues and developmental concerns. She also has experience doing court-ordered custody evaluations and serves as a parent-coordinator for divorced couples. 

 

Dr. Pietrofesa utilizes an eclectic approach with an emphasis on cognitive behavioral and insight oriented therapy.

Dr. Bruce Hillenberg is a State Board Licensed Psychologist and Board-Certified in Clinical Health Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.  He has a Doctorate in Psychology with a specialization in clinical health psychology from West Virginia University.  He has more than 35 years of experience treating adults with chronic pain, acute and chronic health problems, depression, anxiety,

sleep disorders, and psychological trauma.

J. Bruce Hillenberg, Ph.D., ABPP

Dr. Hillenberg is a recognized expert in psychological strategies for coping with the distress associated with chronic pain and health problems.  He encourages the family members of individuals he works with to attend sessions to share viewpoints and to participate in the process of improving psychological resilience and coping effectiveness.  Additionally, Dr. Hillenberg has a special interest in resident, physician and healthcare provider stress and burnout.

Before coming to Affiliated Psychologists of Michigan, Dr. Hillenberg served as the Chief for Pain Management Services for Beaumont Health.  He is currently the President of the Midwest Pain Society. 

Barry S. Markman, Ph.D., LP

Dennis Sugrue, Ph.D., LP

Dr. Barry Markman is a Licensed Psychologist who sees children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.  He is a Cognitive/Behavioral Therapist who specializes in anxiety disorders, mood disorders, AD/HD, and marriage counseling.  Dr. Markman is a Professor and Director of the Learning and Instructional Sciences Doctoral Program in the Educational Psychology Department at Wayne State University.

Dr. Dennis Sugrue is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School.  He has more than 30 years of experience treating adults facing problems of daily living (anxiety, depression, stress, grief, relationship problems, sexual concerns, etc.).  He received his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Windsor. 

Before coming to Affiliated Psychologists of Michigan, Dr. Sugrue was Associate Division Head of Outpatient Psychiatry for the Henry Ford Health System. 

 

Dr. Sugrue is a recognized expert in human sexuality.  He is often quoted in the media and lectures on sexual issues across the United States and at international conferences.  Dr. Sugrue was the founder and Co-Director of the Henry Ford Center for Human Sexuality.  He is past President of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), the nation's largest credentialing organization for professions specializing in human sexuality.  He has authored journal articles and textbook chapters; co-authored the award-winning book Sex Matters for Women-2nd Edition (Guilford, 2011); hosted the Sex Over Sixty DVD (Academy, 2007): and serves on the editorial board for the journal Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity.  In addition to treating sexual problems, he serves as a forensic consultant on sexual issues.
